Born and raised in Southern Illinois, I earned my undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, where I majored in biology and also enjoyed studying economics, political science, biomedical physics, and the classics. I graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine before completing my psychiatry training at Yale New Haven Hospital. During my residency at Yale, I met my wonderful wife, who is also a psychiatrist, and we moved to Portland to explore the beautiful Northwest. We live with our daughter and two cats.
About my practice
As a consult-liaison psychiatrist, I help medical and surgical specialists address their members' mental health needs. I collaborate with members, families, and clinicians to implement individualized solutions to common psychiatric issues that arise or continue in the hospital such as depression, anxiety, and confusion. I also work in residential treatment, where I help members experiencing a mental health crisis to recover and return to the community.
How I thrive
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and staying active mentally, socially, and physically. We enjoy hiking and the outdoors, going to movies and concerts, cooking at home, dining at Portland's amazing restaurants, and traveling. I take pride in my work as a physician and cherish the opportunity to teach and care for members.
