About Reviews

No comments available. ?

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and have lived in several parts of the United States. I was interested in science at young age and decided early on to go into medicine. I was intrigued by many different specialties until I discovered ophthalmology. I really enjoy the technology we use as well as the mix of clinical and surgical practice. It's incredibly gratifying to improve people's vision. The icing on the cake for me was adding a pediatric sub-specialty. I love kids, and I really want to make their experience of going to the doctor a positive one—where they feel comfortable and well cared for, with as little fear and anxiety as possible.

About my practice

My practice is pediatric ophthalmology—which is the medical and surgical treatment of childhood eye disease. I also treat strabismus (misalignment of the eyes) in children and adults of all ages. I provide care for newborns, including our youngest babies in the NICU—as well as toddlers, and school-aged children. Some of my strabismus patients are in their eighties and nineties. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, I worked in pediatric hospitals associated with a university—most recently I was at the University of California San Francisco Children's Hospital in Oakland, and before that I practiced at Arkansas Children's Hospital, associated with the Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. For years I treated many rare conditions as well as common issues in childhood eye disease. I joined Kaiser Permanente because I believe this system provides excellent care for its members. I appreciate being a physician where I am encouraged to practice evidence-based medicine with a kind, service-minded attitude in a sustainable health-care model.

How I thrive

I enjoy traveling and having good meals with friends. I like getting out in the beautiful Pacific Northwest for a hike or a bike ride around the city. Art and music help me thrive.
