I am a hospital-based internal medicine physician as I enjoy the breadth of medical issues that I am able to address on a daily basis. I am a native of Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin medical school in Madison, followed by internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. I have been practicing internal medicine in the Portland/Vancouver area since completing residency in 2000. I am a practicing hospitalist and also volunteer with a local Hospice program. In my spare time, I enjoy family activities with my wife and two children including music, gardening, and playing soccer with my kids.
About my practice
I practice hospital-based internal medicine. I enjoy the wide variety of medical issues that I am challenged to address on a daily basis. I also enjoy helping patients and families work through the many difficult issues that arise while hospitalized with acute illness. I chose to work with Kaiser Permanente because I believe that an integrated care system with advanced information technology provides the best framework to deliver comprehensive, coordinated patient care across the full spectrum of health care.
How I thrive
Outside of work, I enjoy trying to keep up with two energetic, active children involved in music, local sports, and school activities. I am continually challenged to keep up in the garden. I also enjoy working with Hospice patients on a volunteer basis outside of the hospital setting. I am a firm believer that Hospice is an effective way to address end of life issues in a compassionate manner.
