I grew up in Ohio. I ultimately chose anesthesiology to practice medicine because of the example of my physician parents. I chose Kaiser Permanente because of the great team we have. Kaiser Permanente really has allowed me to focus more on clinical work and much less on paperwork and other administrative duties. I enjoy spending time with my wife and children and visit out of town family members as often as I can. I enjoy camping, kite boarding, skiing, and snowboarding. My wife would also say I enjoy fooling with my smartphone.
About my practice
As an anesthesiologist, I evaluate a patient for surgery and decide upon an anesthetic plan. Often times I work with fellow anesthesiologists, surgeons, and nurse anesthetists in formulating an appropriate, patient-specific plan. Most times this involves general anesthesia, sedation, regional anesthesia, or a combination of these. We also decide on what kind of safety monitoring, medications, and special needs any individual patient may present.
How I thrive
I think the best way to thrive is to do my best to maintain a meaningful balance of work, family, mental health, physical health, and spiritual health. As my life has changed, maintaining a balance can be challenging. These challenges give me opportunities to grow as a person and hopefully be able to serve others better.
