About Reviews

No comments available. ?

I spent my first 30 years on the East Coast, born and raised in Washington, D.C., and later living in Philadelphia and Boston. My extended family is from Los Angeles, however, and somehow the West Coast always seemed more like home. I remain thrilled to be in Portland, having arrived from Los Angeles with my family in 2006. Although I trained and worked as an architect, I was always drawn to medicine. My diagnosis, at age 27, of type 1 diabetes, as well as my mother’s early passing due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease), helped give me the courage to change course. I entered medicine hoping to improve the lives of others.

About my practice

As a patient and family member, I have been to many physicians, and I endeavor to be the doctor I would want as my own. At minimum, this means respect, empathy, competence, and vigilance for the interests of my patients. Our chaotic health-care system often prioritizes financial, administrative, or organizational needs, and I moved to Kaiser Permanente to be able to put members first. My practice includes a broad range of minimally invasive, image-guided surgeries that makes vascular and interventional radiology unique in the practice of medicine. This innovative field is deeply rooted in Oregon — the late Dr. Charles Dotter at OHSU was a true pioneer.

How I thrive

Raising a family is the foundation of my life and provides myriad joyful, and sometimes challenging, surprises. Tasks that engage the body and mind, from fixing arteries to building furniture, provide me with a deep sense of satisfaction, and I have sought those kinds of activities in my personal and professional lives. Exercise, from running to cycling to swimming to yoga, helps me manage stress and blood sugar. Music has long been a refuge, and goes well with a cup of coffee and the Sunday crossword. Last but not least, our lives are enriched daily by our faithful dog.
